Solution: : Before you can run Vmware several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel.

There are a lot of complicated solutions online, but I found this to be the simplest & fastest. Don't worry, the virtual operating systems you've created will still exist and you won't lose them.

1. Uninstall VMware
sudo vmware-installer -u vmware-player

2. Reinstall VMware
sudo ./VMware-Player-5.0.2-1031769.x86_64.bundle
Note: adjust the above file name to match the VMware you've downloaded
